Tottenham Hotspur Women head into Sunday's Women's Super League fixture against Aston Villa with confidence, according to manager Martin Ho. His side remain unbeaten in the league and sit third in the table with seven points from three games.
Ho's comments follow a midweek setback in the Subway Players Cup, where a much-changed Spurs side drew 0-0 with West Ham United before losing the additional point in a penalty shootout. "I've said this before, when you get to a penalty shootout, you have the lottery and that little bit of luck with that," Ho said. "We made numerous changes to the team, which upset a little bit of rhythm, connection and so on."
Lenna Gunning-Williams has returned to full training and could be available soon, providing a boost. Jess Naz and Maite Oroz continue with partial training, while defender Clare Hunt remains sidelined. The squad will be looking to build on their impressive league form, which includes an 11-2 goal difference this season.
Ho expects a difficult test against a Villa side managed by Natalia Arroyo. "They've definitely changed the way they play," he noted. "So, definitely more offensive, more fluid with and without the ball, very good defensively. So, it’s going to be a difficult game against them." Villa secured their first win of the season in the cup, beating Nottingham Forest 2-0 with goals from Maya Hijikata and Chasity Grant, and took a point off Brighton with a late Lynn Wilms equaliser.
Spurs will be keen to avenge a 3-2 defeat to Villa in their last meeting on 19 September. The match kicks off at 2pm BST on Sunday 27 September at Brisbane Road and will be shown live on Sky Sports+. Fans can check the full fixtures list and the latest standings on our site.
