Tottenham Hotspur Women Eyeing Crystal Palace Striker Jean-Philippe Mateta

Tottenham Hotspur Women are reportedly eyeing Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta as a potential signing. The French international has been in impressive form for the Eagles, and a move to N17 could be on the cards.

League standing (final 2025 table -- new season not yet under way): 5th in FA WSL, 36 pts, 11W-3D-8L from 22 games, recent form WWDLL.

Mick Brown, a former scout, has urged Tottenham Hotspur Women to target Jean-Philippe Mateta to bolster their striker options for the 2026/27 season. Brown believes that Mateta’s current contract situation at Selhurst Park could work in the North London club’s favour.

“Tottenham have been wanting to sign a striker this summer. I think it’s clear at this point that they’re not entirely happy when you look at their current options. Are Dominic Solanke and Richarlison enough? They don’t think so,” Brown exclusively told Football Insider.

“So, when you’re looking at which top-class strikers might be available, and already have that Premier League experience, you need look no further than Jean-Philippe Mateta.

“That contract situation is still a factor, and Spurs will believe they can get him on the cheap, even if Palace are reluctant to let him go. He’s proven he can score goals at the top level and he would certainly be an upgrade on what Tottenham have already got, plus, he’s somebody who has been on their radar before.

“If they can make a suitable offer, they could be prepared to test Palace’s resolve and see how much money they are willing to pass up on.”

Spurs must test Crystal Palace’s resolve for Mateta

Back in January, AC Milan had a verbal agreement with Mateta before pulling the plug on the deal due to the Frenchman’s alleged fitness problem. He returned to Palace and scored the winner in the Conference League final against Rayo Vallecano in Germany in May.

The centre-forward finally earned the recognition he deserved for his strong season at Selhurst Park, as Didier Deschamps included him in his World Cup squad. Despite being a peripheral figure in France’s star-studded team, he demonstrated that he can still make an impact at the highest level.

With less than 12 months left to run on his contract, the Eagles could opt to cash him in. As interest in Mateta is reportedly growing, it remains to be seen whether Tottenham Hotspur Women will make a move for the French international.

What comes next?

The transfer window is still open, and Tottenham Hotspur Women will be looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season. With Mateta reportedly on their radar, it will be interesting to see whether they can secure a deal for the Crystal Palace striker.
